How to Reach Bhutan

By Air

Bhutan houses a single international airport Paro which is located 7 km away from the main city. The airport is connected to various cities, such as Mumbai & Guwahati. One can reach directly to Bhutan from Kolkata, Bagdogra, and Delhi Airport. If you are traveling from India, you can take Bhutan Airlines or Drukair. Most international flights will directly take you to Bhutan from your respective location.

By Road

If you wish to travel to Bhutan by road, you must pass through any one of these three borders. Jaigaon - Phuensholing Border, Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar.

Most travelers prefer the Jaigaon - Phuentsholing border as you can get the entry permit easily from here. If you are traveling in your private car, it is advisable to take a local driver and you will be allowed to enter the country only after fulfilling certain formalities. Therefore carry all the necessary documents such as voter card, Aadhar card, passport size photo, driving license, etc.

However, if you enter through Samdrup Jongkhar, the nearest Indian state connecting this border is Guwahati. Take a flight or a car to Guwahati, and after reaching there you can get into a regular bus that connects the two regions.

If you wish to enter through the Gelephu border, travel to Dathghari, an Indian border town. Here, all visa work is processed by the Indian Immigration Checkpost. It is noteworthy to mention that all visitors who travel over land will require a visa.

By Train

If you are traveling to the kingdom by train, you must take a train to Hasimara in West Bengal, India. Then you can travel to Bhutan by road which takes a minimum of 2 hrs.
